      Your contribution to the Colorado Native Plant Society John W. Marr and Myrna P. Steinkamp funds supports research projects in plant biology.  These separate funds honor the late Dr. John Marr, Professor at the University of Colorado and first President of the Colorado Native Plant Society, and Myrna Steinkamp, a founding member of the Colorado Native Plant Society who worked on behalf of the Society for many years in a variety of capacities. 

 

Both funds were established to support field and laboratory research on the biology and natural history of Colorado native plants.

 

The Marr Fund supports research on the biology of Colorado native plants and plant communities.

 

The Steinkamp Fund supports research on the biology of Colorado rare native plants.

 

Thanks to the generous contributions of many members and supporters, a total of approximately $3,000 each year is available for grants.  Your donation to these funds is encouraged and welcomed.  Please make your check to the Colorado Native Plant Society, designate the fund(s) to which you are donating and mail to:

Boyce Drummond (Visiting Associate Professor of Biology, Colorado College) and  Jessica Rohde (Paraprofessional in Biology, Colorado College) Role of Plant Community Dynamics in the Reproductive Success of a Federally Listed Butterfly. $700

 

Christina Alba-Lynn (PhD student in Ecology, Colorado State University). Herbivore response to Verbascum thapsus (Common Mullein) populations with different defense phenotypes. $671

 

Neil Snow (Bishop Museum, Hawaii), Pamela Smith (Ft. Collins, CO), and Leslie Stewart (Dolores, CO). Digital Enhancements for an Interactive Key to Grasses of the Southern Rocky Mountain Region. $500.

 

 Myrna P. Steinkamp Recipients

 

Michelle DePrenger-Levin (Research Associate, Denver Botanic Gardens). Analysis of a taxonomically difficult narrow endemic: Corispermum navicula Mosyakin. $1,000

 

Seema Sheth,( PhD candidate, Dept. of Biology, Colorado State University). Determinants of geographic range size in western North American Mimulus. $1,000.

 

John Lovell (PhD student in Ecology, Colorado State University). What factors limit endemic species’ distributions? Genetic, physiological, and ecological investigations into the population structure, dynamics, and history of endemic and widespread Boechera species. $500
