Aquilegia coerulea (Colorado Columbine) Helleboraceae (Hellebore Family)

Alpine, subalpine, montane.  Meadows, woodlands, rocks, scree.  Summer.

The spurs and petal-like sepals of Aquilegia make its flower unique and give rise to its names: 1) "Aquilegia", Latin for "Eagle", refers to the Eagle talon-like spurs and  2) "Columbine", Latin for "Dove", refers to the flower's resemblance (from the rear or side of the flower) to a group of Doves.

"Coerule" is Latin for "blue".
