Piperia unalascensis  (Elegant Piperia)

In 1826 Sprengel gave this Orchid its first scientific name, Spiranthes unalascensis; Sereno Watson renamed it Habenaria unalascensis in 1877; and Per Axel Rydberg named this genus and species in 1901. 

The genus name honors C. V. Piper of the Agricultural Experiment Station in Pullman, Washington.  "Unalascensis" is for the area in which the plant was first collected for science, Unalaska, an Aleutian Island.
