Epipactus gigantea
Orchidaceae  (Orchid Family)

Semi-desert, foothills, montane. Wet areas, hot springs, and hanging gardens.

The genus was named by Olof Swartz; David Douglas (of Douglas Fir fame) named this species in 1839.

“Epipactus” is probably derived from the Greek "epipaktis" which was the classical Greek name for Hellebore, a common name sometimes given this plant.  “Gigantea” is Greek for "very large" and probably refers to the height of the plant which often is over three feet.
