Cypripedium calceolus subspecies parviflorum (Yellow Lady's Slipper Orchid)
Orchidaceae (Orchid Family) (William Weber places this species in the Cypripediaceae Family.)
Foothills and montane. Meadows and Aspen and Pine forests.
Linnaeus named the genus and Hulten named the species.
"Cypripedium" is from the Greek words "Kypris" ("Venus", the goddess of love), and "pes" (“foot”). "Venus' foot" has evolved to "Lady's Slipper". "Parviflorum", from the Latin "parvus" (“small”) and "flos" (“flower”), refers to the small flowers (which actually are large).
