Rafinesque named this Orchid in 1833. 

The word "corallorhiza", from the Greek word "korallion" meaning “coral” and "rhiza" meaning “root”, refers to the coral-like appearance of the underground rhizomes.  "Wisteriana" is for Charles J. Wister, an American Botanist who discovered this Orchid.
