The word "corallorhiza", from the Greek word "korallion" meaning “coral” and "rhiza" meaning “root”, refers to the coral-like appearance of the underground rhizomes. "Maculata", from the Latin word "maculates" means "spotted' and refers to the spotting on the flower.
