| Botrychium simplex |
|
Edward Hitchcock named this plant in 1823. The plant's pinnae are small and seldomly divided. Overall the plant is very small, growing only one to four inches tall. "Simplex", Latin, describes the simple nature of the sporophore (the fertile portion) of this plant. The plant is also very simple in the structure of its trophophore (the photosynthetic, sterile portion of the plant). |
