| Botrychium pallidum |
|
Wagner named this plant in 1990. It was thought to be rare in Colorado, but recent isozyme (i.e., indirect genetic) testing shows that the Colorado plants identified as B. pallidum are actually other Botrychium. The plant is found in Canada and several northern states, including South Dakota where this photograph was taken. Perhaps further searches will find it in Colorado. The plant grows just two to four inches tall. "Pallidum", Latin, refers to the pale color of this plant. |
