Conservation Committee

The Conservation Committee is currently involved in developing a statewide strategy for native plant conservation in partnership with other public and private organizations dedicated to conserving Colorado’s most imperiled plant species. This strategy will represent a collective vision for the future of plant conservation in Colorado emphasizing a coordinated and proactive approach to identifying and carrying out the actions needed to address increasing impacts to our imperiled species and providing for their long-term stewardship.

Education and Outreach Committee

The Colorado Native Plant Society’s Education and Outreach Committee specializes in staffing educational outreach booths, presenting a variety of slide programs, and leading interpretive hikes that focus on plant identification and general ecology.  Please email Committee Chair Megan Bowes (or call her at 303-561-4883) if you would like the Education and Outreach Committee to speak to your group or otherwise support your event.

Field Studies Committee

This committee sponsors plant inventories or other studies by CONPS members or authorized non-members or groups, maintains records of species identified or collected by CONPS members or authorized non-members or groups, makes plant lists available to CONPS members as well as other interested persons as a means of furthering knowledge about and appreciation of our native Colorado flora

Horticulture and Restoration Committee

The Horticulture and Restoration Committee seeks to increase the appreciation and use of Colorado native plants in private and public landscaping and in the restoration, rehabilitation, and revegetation of disturbed areas.  It prepares guidelines for the use of native plants.

Media

This committe arranges for the design, production, printing, and distribution of publications that are deemed necessary or desirable to carry out the overall objectives of CONPS, develops and maintain a website that furthers goals of the Society and that facilitates communication among the Board of Directors, members, and visitors to the website.The goal of the Media Committee is to provide timely and accurate information about the Society and its activities to members and non-members.  The Media committee provides guidance and support for the Society’s publications, including the newsletter, Website, and occasional publications.

Membership

The membership committee maintains accurate and up-to-date membership information, works to maintain current membership level and recruit new members.

Research Grants

This committee selects the recipients of small grants from the John W. Marr Fund and the Myrna P. Steinkamp Memorial Fund.

Sales

The sales committee provides merchandise to members at a discount as a benefit of Society membership, whenever possible, makes available to members new and used books that provide regional information on native and introduced flora, plant communities, plant conservation, natural history and landscaping, makes available to members additional merchandise that a) promotes or advertises the Society and b) provides a service to members.

Workshops

This committee educates persons in all aspects of the Colorado flora, including not only the flowering plants (angiosperms) but also the conifers (gymnosperms), ferns (pteridophytes), mosses (bryophytes), lichens and mushrooms and any other topic with bearing on the plants and plant communities of Colorado.
